M&S Launches New Recyclable Packaging

M&S has recently launched new recyclable packaging for it’s rice, grain and pulse products. The new packaging is created using paper, rather than the traditional plastic wrapping. The supermarket is introducing two designs; a paper-based bag and paper box. The packaging is now available with over 30 of it’s products, including Basmati rice, Couscous and Red Lentils.

The New Paper-Based Packaging

The paper based packaging can be recycled at home using your paper based recycling container for kerbside collections. This makes it easy for consumers to dispose of the waste safely and have it recycled into new products successfully. The new packaging contains a small amount of plastic to keep the product safe, however, can still be recycled in your usual paper bin.

The Benefits Of Paper Packaging At M&S

The new packaging is estimated to remove a combined 5.5 million units of plastic and contains 90% less plastic by weight. This incredible statistic shows the huge benefits of using paper as an alternative, diverting large amounts of plastic from landfill. M&S has also pledged that 100% of its food packaging will be widely recyclable by 2025, as part of its Plan A sustainability roadmap. Alongside this, M&S has committed to removing 1 billion units of plastic from its food packaging by 2027.
