How Is PET Plastic Recycled?
PET plastic is highly suitable for recycling and is a key candidate for closed loop systems, where it is reused to create similar new products. Here’s how our recycling processes work:
- Collection and Sorting – PET waste is collected from your site and delivered to a licensed recycling facility. It’s sorted by colour, clarity, and level of contamination.
- Cleaning – All PET is thoroughly washed to remove food residues, adhesives, and labels. This step is crucial for achieving high-quality recyclable materials.
- Shredding and Processing – Clean PET is shredded into flakes or pellets, which can be further purified and decontaminated.
- Repurposing – These flakes are used to produce new plastic products such as recycled PET bottles, fibre for clothing and carpets, or even strapping and sheeting for industrial use.
